The Prescription Foot Orthotic Laboratory Association
Founded in 1990, the Prescription Foot Orthotic Laboratory Association (PFOLA)
is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to promoting and improving
the efficacy of custom, prescription foot orthoses to the medical professions,
the public, and to third-party providers of medical coverage. Dave Wagner, President
of North Star Podiatric lab, is a founding member of PFOLA.
North Star Podiatric Lab has achieved B.A.P.F.O.L. Accreditation (Board for Accreditation of Foot Orthotic Laboratories). Accredited facilities are required to complete and
pass two components to qualify for accreditation: 1) technical component:
evaluates the expertise of the facility in filling standard foot orthotic prescriptions,
2) looks at the quality systems in place at the given facility through the
development of a quality assurance document. These components are administered
through a coded, juried process to maintain objectivity in the results.
The Board for Certification in Pedorthics
The Board for Certification in Pedorthics is a certifying body responsible for
setting and updating pedorthic standards, maintaining compliance with those standards,
and protecting the public in pedorthic matters. North Star Podiatric Lab has
achieved certification with the BCP. Acquiring appropriate continuing education
points are required for all certified pedorthists to maintain their C.Ped. designation.
